LITE TRUTHS FROM THE INSIGNIFICANT
Couple of days ago, I saw this fascinating snake-like lizard(glass lizard). Its look were a bit scary but attractive as well. Its movement pattern caught my attention for some minutes, I admired this little reptile. This admiration led me to a consequential researchh on Lizards. Through the research, I was able to make deductions of three life truths that can be learnt from the behavioural features of Lizard. These three lessons made me understand the reason behind the Bible's remark of the Lizard as a 'little but exceedingly wise' creature.(Proverbs 30:28).
Lesson 1: ECDYSIS
All lizards grow continuously throughout their lives, however their skin does not grow to accommodate their changing size. It is for this reason that they must shed their skin regularly to allow proper growth.
This depicts their thirst to keep growing at all cost. Like the lizard, we have to outgrow
some things, there are some hard lessons you have to learn so as to keep advancing. Advancement burns away the trash from you, making you the sparkling pure essence that everyone would see and admire.
People are constantly dropping dirt, rubbish, toxic wastes, etc. into flowing streams, but the streams always remain pure because once it carries the rubbish some distance, it drops it and continues moving. Don't be afraid to experiment and try new positive things, don't be afraid if you pick up shit or make mistakes, don't be afraid when people throw shit at you. It is only stagnant pools that are afraid of trash. Make an advancement each day. Grow!
Lesson 2: AUTONOMY
When a lizard feels threatened by a predator, it can shed its tail at will. because the tail maintains the ability to move up to half an hour after separation, the lizard hopes that the predator will attack the wriggling tail, enabling it to make a getaway in the meantime.
In a world full of challenges like this, certain lifestyles, mindset and associations tend to become major set-backs to the progress of our lives, but we refuse to let them go because we can't bear the thought of life without them. We must learn to allow such lifestyles and associations that are less beneficial to our lives to go before they result to our downfall, if a lizard caught by its tail does not let its tail go, the predator will eventually catch it and kill it. Abstinence from factors that can weigh us down guarantees a greater attainable height in destiny.
Lesson 3: SELF-DEVELOPMENT
A lizard learns to fend for itself from the egg. It has no parents to rely upon, for it there is no room for sluggishness and complacency. It must either find a way to survive its environment or succumb to it.
One of the greatest misconceptions that people have about life is that it owes them something. This is the reason why so many people see it as unnecessary to take actions that will gear up their live achievements and advancements. They believe that everything will come easy to them and there is no need to go out and make their own destiny, forgetting that the journey of life will ultimately be walked alone; each man must bear his own burden and take his own cross.
It is the hardwork of the mind that will allow us to achieve our ultimate dream, the purpose of God for us and bring out the best in us. Life does not owe us anything. Like the lizard, it is we that must make our own destiny. We are what we are today because of the choices we made yesterday.
